South Africans Mad At SAMA Over Record Of the Year Winner
There are no surprises here. This is not the first time there has been diverse reactions over award winners, after the event.
This time though, it seems the fans might be on to something.
The 27th South African Music Awards was held 2 days ago, on the 31st of July, 2021. Fans were excited to see there favorites win in one category of the other, and went on to congratulate the winners.
Among those winners, was Matthew Mole, who won the Record Of The Year, for his song, “Keep it together”. This came as a shock to everyone as he was in the race with a lot of prominent artistes like, Miss Pru, Kabza De Small, Master KG, Blaq Diamond, MFR Souls, Azana and many more. Most of these artistes have released singles which went viral in both South African and beyond, so it is not surprising that many tweeps do not agree with SAMA on this win.
They went online to express their disapproval, stating that there is no way Matthew Mole could be the winner as no one knows who he is. Some other person tweeted that Master KG is easily the winner of this category, as his song “Jerusalema” went viral in all parts of the world.
However, Matthew Mole was excited for his new win, and wrote a speech of gratitude to that effect saying; “This is crazy. Keep It Together won Record Of The Year last night at @thesamas_ this category was based completely on votes, which only means all of you people are the real winners here. You’re just da bessst and I can’t say thank you enough.”
