The 65-year-old academic and amapiano star Olpha “Gee Six Five” Selepe has died, just weeks after finding fame across Mzansi with her hit single Obani Labantu.

We woke up to the sad news of Gee Six Five’s Death, Confirming the news, the late singer’s family has revealed the cause of the death to be COVID-19.

According to a statement released by her family on Gee Six Five’s Social media page, the singer and academic was Battling with the virus until she was overwhelmed and died this morning.

Known for her hit song Obani Lababantu, Gee Six Five was a inspiration to many and was also seen as a leader throughout her life.

The sad news was confirmed by her niece Sbu Mpungose in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“My beloved aunt, MumNcane who many of you know as Gee Six Five, is no more. She displayed leadership throughout her life, was the epitome of fearlessness and inspired many with her single Obani Labantu. Mthiya, Shandu kaNdaba, Sontshikazi. RIP Gee Six Five,” she wrote in a short statement on social media.
